Elul - I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine

I am accustomed to prayers in the style of Indian Jews. There is nothinglike Selichot prayers to awaken me to more “ahavat yisrael”, or love of one’s fellow Jew. I got accustomed to, and now love, to be in a synagogue where theprayer style is that of Indian Jews. And there are several reasons for this:

  1. The synagogue is silent. Noone chats or interrupts services, including in the women’s section.

  2. The second reason is completelypersonal. My husband was born in Bombay, India, his family is there, and me aswell. You’ll be surprised to learn that my husband doesn’t actually likeSelichot prayers, while I get more and more excited as Rosh Hashanahapproaches.

So here are Selichot prayers in the Indian style.
